Community Service Opportunities

Many community service (volunteer) activities exist for UPSOM medical students.  Medical students who have volunteered at least 100 hours of service to their community during their medical school years are eligible to apply for the Community Service Certificate (details provided in Navigator/student portfolio).  Some of these have become service learning opportunities—volunteering that is formally linked to learning objectives with opportunities for preparatory and post-activity reflection.  Service learning activities that occur over multiple weeks can be subsumed in the Clinical Experiences (CE) course, where it is formally recognized.  We have also included on a separate page all volunteer activities that might occur on just one or two occasions which meet the service-learning requirement.
